“If you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one.” -Russian Proverb
The above quote came through my Twitter feed this morning. I immediately thought of the direct sales consultants who join more than one direct selling company, claiming they can’t earn enough money with just one.
I love this visual. I have two basset hounds that are, by nature, hunters – especially rabbit hunters. If a bunny happens to mistakenly wander into my yard, the hounds will take off chasing it. Those little hares are fast! They zig zag back and forth and use their little legs to get them on the other side of the fence before they become lunch for the long ears. Never once have my long dogs been able to catch a rabbit they are chasing.
Take the visual a step further: a race. One person runs straight toward the finish line. The other racer runs back and forth, left to right, sometimes back pedaling , while running quickly, making little progress forward.
Attentions Divided
Need one more? Take a blown up balloon. Bat it up in the air with your hand and before it falls to the group, swat it upwards again – and repeat. You could do this for quite a while, couldn’t you? Now add a second balloon and do the same. It takes both hands, and constant scanning of your eyes to ensure you’re keeping close watch on both balloons before they hit the ground. It takes much more work, doesn’t it?
I hope I don’t need to drill down into this concept further. Are you seeing why on most all occasions you will not be more successful balancing, marketing, learning, operating and representing two separate direct sales companies?
I’m betting my odds the one who only chase one rabbit will have a much better opportunity for success.
“Maybe it is time to take the barnacles off the ship, to throw off everything that hinders progress and growth.”
