For years I have witnessed direct sales consultants post online about their sells, using it as a noun. In the spirit of helping a sister (or brother) out with their professional image, the Grammar Princess is offering up the following:

How to Handle a Scentsy Catalog Changeover
Do you have questions about handling a Scentsy catalog changeover from Spring/Summer catalogs over to the new Fall/Winter ones? Lean how to get rid of them; what to do with leftover catalogs and what not to do.
NOW You Want to Sell Your Stuff?
Everything Must Go? You should have had that attitude before going out of business.
On a somewhat regular basis I see Facebook posts from consultants wanting to get rid of their on-hand inventory because they’re going out of business. Some have been terminated because they didn’t sell the minimum required. Yet others quit because they buy inventory but then don’t sell it to customers, so they end up with a closet full of it.
Direct Sales is a business where you EARN money, not one that should be too expensive to keep.
What baffles me is all the scrambling and jockeying that goes on to get others to buy their products when they decide they no longer want to sell. If they had that same drive and passion while they were still independent direct sales consultants, they would be realizing amazing success.
Perhaps if you are also one who is struggling to sell the amount of product you want or need to, just pretend you are going out of business – and start busting a move to get it in the hands of those who will pay you for it.
See you at the top!

Tips if You’re Struggling With Summer Sales
It’s middle of July and your Scentsy sales volumes are down. That’s not uncommon. So what do you do about it?
Whatever you do, do not – repeat: do not take the summer off from your Scentsy business. If you have taken the first half of summer off, then break is over.
It is true things do tend to slow down a bit during summer months, but that is all the more reason to make sure you keep working your business. Otherwise you will have a non-existent paycheck during the summer months and your fall sales will not be set up to succeed.
Ready to quit?
Worst yet, if you’re feeling frustrated and are ready to throw in the towel, quitting in the summer is a horrible idea. Why? Because the slower summer signifies that the crazy, hoppin’ busy, holiday season is right around the corner. Scentsy does over 50% of their business in the last three months of the year.
It’s like an accountant complaining there aren’t any/many taxes to prepare in May. Right…. it’s not tax season, that’s why some only work seasonal or they find other bookkeeping gigs to keep some income coming in during the off season. But it’s not realistic to decide to “quit” because they don’t have enough 1040s to file in the summer!
What to do about slow summer sales
Below are some summer suggestions from experienced Scentsy consultants to help get you through the lean months.
- “Here is something I am doing in the summer. I am holding a Summer BBQ and Pool Party and having 3 other DS Consultants come over. All 4 of us are providing the food and refreshments and inviting our local customer base to the party. We are making it a family event. To get the parents here for our demo party…we are having some face painting, swimming and crafts for the kids and have lined up some “folks” to help with that aka keeping the kids busy while we do our mini product demos. Each of us gets 20 minutes to do a demo but our tables will be out for the entire 3 hours.” (LA note: I don’t generally like, encourage or endorse having a party with other DS consultants but if it’s all you can get in the summer, TAKE IT!)
- “Think about all the parades and festivals in the summer. It’s a great time to get out and hand out business cards, pens/pencils with your contact information. Get there before the start of the parade as viewers are waiting around for the beginning. Just walk up and down the parade route handing them out”
- “One of the things that I’m doing is participating in a “Multi-Host” party, with several team members getting together to do a “Bingo” party.”
- “The absolutely one thing you cannot do is to take the summer off to be with your kids. So many moms seem to do that then wonder why they have no business in the fall. Schedule some time at least weekly if not daily that you will spend on business. Work early mornings or late at night. Rearranging your work time is fine. Stopping all together is not.”
- “Summer is also a great time to showcase your products wherever you go. How many cookouts, family gatherings, neighborhood picnics, etc will you be at this summer? Great way to showcase your products at the same time as you are out having a great time. Scentsy totes for beach, pool, kids camp, grocery store; keeping those cold/frozen items from melting on the way home, carrying them to/from the get-togethers. You don’t have to have a lot of parties in the summer to showcase your products and book up your fall.”
- “Brainstorm with your team members, especially those who are on the brink of “panic and quit” mode. Think outside of the box and open new veins where people have never previously heard of you. If you’re strictly an online marketer, consider doing some offline advertising and vice versa.”
Hopefully the above suggestions have given you something to think about. Scentsy is a business where you constantly need to plant seeds so that you will have a harvest later.
All the flowers of the future are in the seeds of today.
