If you have a direct sales team of consultants, it’s a guarantee that you have lost or you will lose team members. Turnover is high in this industry. People come and go frequently. If you’re looking to earn a full time income and realize big success, you need to commit to stick around for the long haul.
Industry average is that only two percent of direct sales consultants turn their business into a long term career and advance to senior ranks. That’s just a fact. For those who keep on keeping on, the rewards are plentiful. Rather than get upset or bummed when you lose team members, celebrate it!
Celebrate losing team members!
Celebrate a loss? Yes! Because it’s actually a gain. Consider children losing a tooth. How exciting! The little baby tooth, the temporary little corn niblet is gone and now there is room for a big, permanent tooth to come in. Think about the tooth fairy – letting go of a baby tooth can be profitable. Had that little bugger never left your mouth you would not have benefited from the tradeoff.
Today was the day my tooth finally fell out. I wanted to jump and laugh and shout. Now, I can do the things other kids do… show off the hole and let Jello SQUISH through. The best part of all is much later tonight I’ll hop into bed and turn off the light. Then, after I close my sleepy eyes, the tooth fairy will come and leave a SURPRISE!
Now reread the tooth ditty above and substitute the tooth for lost team members. You’ve heard all the gardening analogies about pruning the dead wood so that what’s left can thrive. The needed energy to grow no longer has to be divided among the weeds and weak limbs. The same is true for a tooth and also a team member.
Think about that wiggly tooth that is barely hanging on by a thread. The child plays with it, tosses it about with her tongue, not focusing on school work or what you’re trying to communicate. Rather it just flops around, serving no useful purpose. Until “¦ it’s finally out of the way then the new growth starts.
Also, can you do anything about it? Is it within your span of control to control what other people do? No, of course not. So why fight it? Why not embrace and celebrate it?
Don’t view lost team members as a deficit. View it as making room for the strong, permanent teeth of your team to have the space to develop into something strong and beneficial.
Celebrate losing team members! (Just don’t forget to keep working your business to get more!)
