I had the opportunity to visit the Scentsy Wickless Distribution Center last week. I was always impressed with the speed and accuracy this facility fulfills the individual and party orders submitted by customers and independent consultants but I now have a whole new appreciation for the process and the employees.
I’m not even sure I can explain what I saw and do it justice. It is a very complex system that runs like a well oiled machine. It’s very systematic and full of checks and balances along the way to ensure accuracy. Just as each individual independent Scentsy consultant is an essential piece in the entire team puzzle, each employee plays a vital role in fulfilling our orders.
Thinking of some of the employees who touch each order:
- The person who prints off the orders and organizes them for fulfillment
- The person who hand-picks the candle bars, sets them on the cart and then forwards the cart to the next zone
- The person(s) who continue to hand pick each item from the shelves until all product items are on the cart
- The person who labels and scans the inventory then packs the boxes
- The person who gets the box on the UPS tractor trailer
By my count there are at least six (6) employees who directly touch each order – probably more. That does not include those whose job is to keep the picking shelves well stocked; assemble starter kits; ensure packing paper and UPS labels are maintained to adequate levels; building maintenance personnel to keep their equipment and heating and cooling properly working; hi-low drivers; the supervisors; the security personnel; and the administrators.
What few know is that our Scentsy buddies (scented stuffed animals) arrive in Lexington in bulk. Someone needs to individually tag each animal and place it into the individual box. It’s not a matter of just picking the Buddy off the shelf and setting it on the cart to be packed.
Also, this is just the east coast distribution center. What I described above does not even begin to cover all the employees who craft and pack the warmers, wax and all of our fragrance items we sell – all before it ever gets to the warehouse in Lexington.
So the next time you receive a Scentsy order, know that in addition to the fantastic scents inside, your box is also packed with a whole lot of love! Kudos to all the Scentsy Family employees who do an outstanding job supporting the sales representatives in the field.
